Lots of different kinds of trails here at Carter’s!

We have wide trails through the woods and over the fields overlooking the Androscoggin River. Also we have many trails groomed for skate and classic, as well as several ungroomed trails, great for expert backcountry skiing and snowshoeing. Our trails wind up the mountain with great views of the Presidentials, Carter Moriahs and Sunday River. We have a mountain parking lot you can drive to so that you can easily access the Intermediate trails too!

We also have fat tire bike rentals and bikers can use the same trails. Please stay off the tracks and call about availability and conditions.

Dogs are allowed on our trails! We require a Doggie Day pass for $15 (please see our Trail Pass page). Dogs should be on voice command or on a leash, always well-behaved and please carry a leash with you and always pick up after your dog! Dogs are not allowed in the lodge, except for Charlie (pictured on the left); he’s our Carter’s XC Ski ambassador!

We have all kinds of activities and rentals here, including xc skiing, snowshoeing and fat-tire biking! We also have off-grid cabins you can book with your family or friends! Please check out our Lodging page and consider booking in advance. We are usually booked by November for the following season for weekends!

We would like to invite all students from these districts to enjoy FREE cross country skiing at Carter’s XC Ski Center in Bethel. Thanks to WinterKids, a Maine nonprofit dedicated to getting more kids outside in the winter, Carter’s XC Ski was awarded funding to develop more kids’ programs at our xc ski center this year.

WinterKids works to develop healthy lifestyles in kids through education and fun, outdoor winter activity. The WinterKids App program offers free and discounted kid’s entry at dozens of Maine winter recreation areas for winter fun. Family memberships are just $40 and cover a family of five for the whole year, granting access to redeem deals directly in the WinterKids App. Whether kids want to try a new winter sport, or go more often, the WinterKids App is your ticket to outdoor winter fun! Free Community XC Ski days for kids from SAD #17, SAD #44, RSU #10 & RSU# 56. FREE trail passes will be given to all students from these districts EVERYDAY this winter! Please present a recent report card or other proof and students under the age of 14 should be accompanied by a paying adult. Rentals available at various rates.
