Camp Fern from the trail

Camp Fern from the trail

Camp Fern

Named after our grandmother, Fern Lyndell Carter, Camp Fern was built by my father, Dave Carter, in 2001. It is a lovely, 2-story cabin with a lot of character and coziness. Currently it has 2 double beds and 1 double bunk bed upstairs, and a sitting area with a few comfy chairs. Downstairs consists of an open-concept kitchen/dining room area with a woodstove, an antique wood cookstove (just for show), a gas cook stove, kitchen area with pots, pans, dishes and utensils. There is a pour over coffee maker and a stove-top percolator. There are dishcloths and basins for doing dishes. If you want dishes to be simpler, please bring your own paper plates. Also in the dining room there’s bench seating and chairs around a table. There are lots of magazines, some books, games, and drawing materials.

There are gas lights too. We also provide matches, candles and battery-operated lanterns. It is helpful to bring a headlamp or other lanterns for more light if you wish.

Check-in is at 2:30pm and arrival time should be before 4:30pm. Please call if that is not possible. You can come and ski or snowshoe earlier if you wish; you just won’t be able to check in to your cabin until 2:30pm. Check-out time is 10:30am and again you can always adventure after check-out on any of the trails! Please check in at Willow Brook Lodge, otherwise known as Carter’s XC Ski Center & Shop.

We look forward to having you get outside with us!

Dining Room at Camp Fern

Dining Room at Camp Fern

Please bring your own linens or sleeping bags and pillowcases. We provide fitted sheets and there are a few throw blankets around. We also provide kindling, fire starter material, matches, and firewood. Please keep the woodbox full and remember to stock the stove before bed, but most likely you’ll have to throw some more logs in the stove early in the morning or get up during the night. This is a winter adventure after all!

You must snowshoe or ski to the cabins in the winter, but no worries, it is a short 1o minute trip in and we rent both skis or snowshoes for your convenience. You should always bring both snowshoes or xc skis if you have them. Otherwise we have lots of rentals. Check out our home page for current trail conditions before arriving.

Includes Trail Passes:

$139/night for 2 people on weekends/vacation/holidays (Minimum of 2 night stay)

$129/night for 2 people on weekdays (Minimum of 2 night stay or $50 extra for only 1 night-weekdays only, does not inlcude vacation/holiday weekdays)

Glamping at a cabin

The cabins don’t have running water, but we provide potable water in gallon jugs for cooking and cleaning. You can drink it too, but should probably bring extra. Since this is a rustic cabin, there is only an outhouse. We provide toilet paper and hand sanitizer, but you may want to bring wipes too.

The cabins are located on our trails, which means the cabin rental includes trail passes to our ski center and access to the trails during the off-season. During the winter season the trails are great for xc skiing, snowshoeing, and fat tire biking. During the other months our trails are excellent for trail biking, trail running, hiking, and walking and the Androscoggin River is great for swimming, canoeing, and kayaking.
